No Video Skills? No Problem! Using AI to Create Videos

No Video Skills No Problem Using AI to Create Videos By Chenier Mershon

As a learning and development leader and relationship manager dedicated to helping clients find top talent, I’m always seeking new ways to create meaningful impact. Recently, I decided to step into the world of blogging to share insights and experiences. But as someone who believes in making learning engaging, I wanted to go beyond just text – I wanted to explore video.

There was just one problem: while I have extensive experience creating training content and programs, I don’t have a strong background in ground up video production. Nor do I have the time to start from scratch and learn complex video editing software. I’ll admit, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has always felt a little intimidating to me, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. But I also know that the best way to get past that hesitation is to learn more about it. I believe in giving something a fair shot before deciding if it’s for me. So, I started looking into AI-powered tools that could help bridge the gap.

Enter AI Powered Tools

During my research, I came across several AI-powered video creation tools, including Invideo, Synthesia, Lumen5, and Peech. Each had its strengths, but I wanted something that felt more like a training presentation rather than a marketing-style video for this first experiment. I was looking for a tool that allowed me to incorporate an avatar, maintain a format I was already comfortable with, and focus on learning content rather than promotional messaging.

Synthesia

That’s what initially led me to Synthesia. It promised to take my written content and transform it into a video with minimal effort. Skeptical but curious, I gave it a try.

I was amazed by how simple it was to get started. I pasted the link to my blog article, selected the type of video I wanted, and watched as the magic happened. Not only did the platform pull in my content, but it also incorporated branding elements like colors and logos automatically.

Synthesia created multiple scenes, provided script suggestions, and gave me the option to select an AI avatar and voice. The interface was extremely intuitive, very similar to PowerPoint or Storyline, making it easy for me to edit and customize.

Invideo

I also tried Invideo, another popular tool, but for my first attempt I found the initial learning curve to be a bit longer than I hoped. However, I really liked its scriptwriting capabilities and the more marketing-style approach that focused on animated or motion-based images with voiceovers. While it didn’t offer the same avatar-driven, training-focused experience I was looking for, it had strong potential for creating visually dynamic, high-energy content. This platform is perfect for communications, visual storytelling through case studies and scenarios, and reinforcing training with recap videosand I will be trying it out next.

And the winner is…

In the end, I found that Synthesia aligned better with my need for speed as it had the quickest learning curve, but exploring different tools helped me understand the variety of AI-powered video solutions available, each catering to different use cases, from corporate training to marketing and storytelling.

From Blog to Video in Under 30 Minutes

What truly impressed me was the speed. From start to finish, I had my first-ever AI-generated video completed in less than 30 minutes; on a platform I had never even heard of before that day. The learning curve was practically non-existent, and the final product looked polished and professional.

The video even included music that matched the tone I provided, which was a nice touch. The only slight criticism I have is that the avatar’s mouth animation sometimes felt a little off, and occasionally, the AI inflected a word in a way that sounded unnatural. However, Synthesia makes it incredibly easy to preview each scene and adjust animations as needed. You can also preview the full video before downloading, so fine-tuning the details is simple.

L&D Uses for AI Generated Videos

While AI-powered video creation is a great way to bring blog articles to life, its potential goes far beyond content marketing. For instructional designers, learning experience designers (LXD), and eLearning developers, these tools offer an efficient way to create engaging training programs, aligning perfectly with my goal of helping clients deliver impactful learning experiences. Here are a few ways L&D professionals can leverage AI video tools like Synthesia and Invideo:

1. Employee Communications & Announcements

Replace long emails with dynamic video messages featuring motion graphics, stock footage, and voiceover narration. This is great for sharing company updates, leadership messages, and internal initiatives in a more engaging way.

2. Onboarding & Orientation

Create polished, branded videos to introduce new hires to company policies, culture, and key processes. This can help create a consistent and engaging onboarding experience without the need for live sessions.

3. Compliance & Policy Training

Transform compliance documents into digestible, engaging videos that keep learners’ attention. This can help ensure important policies are communicated effectively through visuals and voiceovers.

4. Process & Systems Training

Walk learners through step-by-step instructions for systems, workflows, and tools using AI-generated videos. Content can be easily updated as systems change, ensuring training stays relevant.

5. Visual Storytelling for Case Studies & Scenarios

Bring real-world scenarios to life using animated or stock footage-based storytelling with voiceover narration. Visual storytelling is ideal for soft skills training, leadership development, sales training, and showcasing customer success stories.

6. Training Recaps & Reinforcement Videos

Summarize key takeaways from longer training sessions with concise, visually appealing recap videos. Use music, imagery, and voiceovers to reinforce learning concepts without relying on text-heavy slides.

7. Role-Playing & Scenario-Based Learning

Create realistic workplace simulations using motion-based visuals and scripted voiceovers. Scenario and role-playing videos are perfect for customer service, sales training, and conflict resolution practice.

8. Explainer & “How-To” Videos

Use animated visuals and step-by-step narration to teach processes, systems, or tools without needing on-screen text. How-to videos are great for software tutorials, product training, and hands-on learning experiences.

By integrating AI-generated videos into their learning strategies, L&D teams can save time, reduce costs, and create high-quality training content that meets learners where they are. While AI won’t replace the need for instructional designers and video professionals, it can be a powerful complement to traditional training development methods.

Understanding the Cost of AI Video Creation Tools

Like many AI-powered tools, platforms like Synthesia typically offer a free version, but it comes with limitations – usually a cap on the number of video minutes you can create. This is great if you just want to experiment and try one or two videos before deciding if it’s worth upgrading.

If you plan to use AI-generated videos regularly, you’ll need to invest in a paid plan. Pricing varies depending on the platform, features, and how many videos you want to create each month. While there is a cost involved, the time and efficiency you save can make it well worth it – especially if you need to produce videos frequently but don’t have the resources or skill set for traditional video production.

For those in L&D, marketing, or any role where video is becoming an essential part of content strategy, these tools provide an accessible, scalable, and cost-effective way to bring ideas to life. It’s all about weighing the investment against the time saved and the impact of high-quality, engaging video content.

Why You Should Give AI Video a Try

If you’re looking to enhance your blog posts or create engaging training videos from text without the hassle of traditional video production, I highly recommend experimenting with AI tools like Synthesia and Invideo. You don’t need to be a video expert to bring your content to life – you just need to be willing to explore.

In the end, I felt a real sense of accomplishment. What started as an experiment turned into a practical, repeatable process for turning written insights into engaging multimedia content.

And while my experience with AI video creation is just beginning, I’m confident that my clients are in great hands with our talented L&D video designers and developers who have already mastered this innovative approach to video creation.
